Mathematical reasoning

Date: 15th Feb 2018 @ 1:14pm

Last week in our maths lessons we were learning all about capacity - how to describe, compare and measure it. We learned lots of new vocabulary, such as nearly empty, half full and nearly full. We had a race with a friend to see who could fill their beaker the quickest - the person using a spoon or the person using a cup.

Our teachers challenged us to think about whether the tallest container always has the biggest capacity. We predicted whether we thought the bottle, the washing up bowl or the tray would have the biggest capacity. Lots of us thought rhat the bottle would because it was the tallest, although some of us predicted correctly and said the washing up bowl. We measured the capacity of each container using cups of water.

It was a bit of a wet week with all that water but lots of fun too!
