Summer 1 Week 1

Date: 25th Apr 2025 @ 9:52am

This week we have welcomed some new friends into our Nursery classroom. They have settled in really well and we have been showing them how to play nicely within our classroom, what our school rules and routines.

In Phonics we have been looking at the letter ‘f’, we have been working hard at hearing initial sounds in objects and animals. Our Nursery rhyme for this week has been ‘Humpty Dumpty’.

In Squiggle while you Wiggle we have revisited the up and down marks and for those of us who are ready we have been practicing the letter formation of ‘i’ and ‘l’.

In Maths we have been singing counting songs, counting actions and counting out amounts. We created our own counting wands to help us count objects with 1-1 correspondence and we have created some beautiful number collages counting out amounts of 3 in pom poms, feathers, straws and bits of paper.

In R.E we began our new topic with a discussion about friends. Although we are all friends in Nursery, we talked about how we have special friends that we like to play with a lot. We thought about what friends are. We found friendship bracelets in our Chatterbox that we decorated and gave to our special friends.

We then heard two stories - the story of Ruth and Naomi from the Bible and the story of The Rainbow Fish. We talked about how Ruth was a good friend to Naomi because she didn’t leave her on her own but the Rainbow Fish was not a good friend because he ignored the other fish and wouldn’t share his shimmery scales. We learned the song ‘Friends’, which reinforced what good friends do.

In PSHE we have been focusing on developing our listening skills. We thought about how to be a ‘good listener’ to our friends.
·       Look at someone when they are talking to you, make eye contact.
·       Nod your head to show you understand what they are saying.
·       Ask questions if you don’t understand
