Below you will find key information about what is going on in your child's year group this year. 

Teachers

Your teachers this academic year are Mrs Threlkeld and Miss Dotchin in 1CT/KD and Miss Barker in 1CB

Miss Moore, Miss Begum and Mrs Jones are your teaching assistants. 

Key topics 

Here are the topics that we will be learning about each half term:

Home Learning

Homework will consist of Spellings, Reading, Numbots Each child will receive a paper copy each week Homework sent out on a Friday to be returned the following Friday. 

PE days 

PE day is a Tuesday for 1CT and a Monday for 1CB.

Phonics 

Below you can find the links to three videos that show how we deliver reading in Year 1. 

Read 1 focuses on decoding words and finding key sounds within the book. We also look at new vocabulary words the children might not have heard before. 

Read 2 is where the children focus on prosody and reading with fluency and expression. 

Read 3 is all about comprehension and ensuring children have understood the book they have read.

The aim is by the end of these 3 reads that your child will bring their book home and be able to read it with fluency and expression. We hope these videos help you to understand how reading is taught and how you can support your child at home using a similar approach if you feel they still need support with reading the text.
