Summer 1 Week 5
Date: 22nd May 2025 @ 10:16am
Thank you so much to all of the parents who came to our REAL Project Writing Party. We had such a lovely morning watching a performance from 2Boards and a Passion and exploring mark making in a variety of ways inside the classroom and outdoors. We enjoyed painting with water, mud, making marks with chalk, large scale painting, forming our names with playdough, decorating book marks, decorating party bags and making marks in different trays of foods from around the house such a ketchup, cocoa powder, rice and custard.
In Phonics this week we have been looking at the letter ‘v’. We have been sorting and looking at objects beginning with the letter. We have also been learning this lovely Rhyme;
Monkey Babies by Irene Rawnsley and John Foster
Don’t leave your monkey baby sitting by a swamp.
A crocodile might eat him.
Chomp. Chomp. Chomp.
Don’t leave your monkey baby sitting in the breeze.
A snake might wrap around him.
Squeeze. Squeeze. Squeeze.
Don’t leave your monkey baby sitting on the track.
A lion might be lurking.
Snack. Snack. Snack.
Keep your monkey baby high up in the trees,
Feed him on bananas and pick off all his fleas.
As it is SAW week this week we have been enjoying lots of Science fun! We had a lovely session with As Creatives listening to the story of Little Red Riding Hood and learning all about the creatures she might see in the forest. We have been doing our own experiments looking at objects which float and sink. We made predictions about what would happen and then used our explanation skills to describe why we thought the object floated or sunk.
We also had a fantastic time enjoying the Year 5 Science fair having a go at all of the wonderful experiments they set up for us.
We have been continuing to learn about colour mixing this week by painting our hands and mixing them together to see what colour they turn. It was lots of fun!
In R.E we began our new topic all about special places. We heard the story of Abraham and how God asked him to leave his home and travel far away. Abraham was thankful to God for providing him with lots of good things along the way - land, sheep, cows and even a son! Everywhere he was thankful, he built an altar and thanked God. We then heard about how Jewish people began to build temples with altars where they thanked God, and also how Christians build churches with altars for the same reason.
