Summer 2 Week 1
Date: 13th Jun 2025 @ 9:22am
Welcome back to all of our wonderful Nursery children, we hope you had a lovely half term. This week we have been busy revisiting our school rules and classroom expectations for the start of the half term.
Our topic this half term is all about how to be healthy and how to look after our bodies. We have started our learning by looking at the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. In Drawing club we have been developing our drawing skills by drawing some fantastic pictures of caterpillars and butterflies and we thought about what he might eat next. The pictures the children drew were absolutely brilliant, their drawing skills are really coming along!
In Phonics we have been looking at the letter ‘x’ and we have been practicing drawing these on the beautiful Father’s Day cards we have been creating to add some kisses to the end of their names. The children have worked really hard making them so we hope you love them!
In Math’s we have been comparing amounts and using the words ‘more, less, the same’. We looked at the story of ‘The Hungry Hippo’ and we practiced feeding two hippos the same amounts.
We have started doing Helicopter Stories this half term which is where the children create and think of their own stories which we then act out together as a class in a little stage we create on the carpet with masking tape. I have been amazed at some of the lovely, imaginative stories some of the children came up with.
In R.E we began our new topic all about special times. We looked at some pictures of items we might see at special times, such as a birthday cake, wedding dress, Christening gown, funeral flowers, fireworks, Easter eggs and Christmas trees. We talked about which of these special times might happen in a church.
We then named our own special times such as birthdays, going to the beach, going on holiday, going to the playcentre or to grandma’s house.
We talked about how some special times are not happy, such as funerals, but they are times filled with love.
In Music this week the children explored making short and long sounds with different instruments. We then had a go at passing a tambourine around the circle without making a sound, it was very tricky!
