Week 1
Happy New Year! We hope you and your family have had a fantastic holiday!
This week we have launched our new topic 'Why do we go on journeys?' Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about lots of different types of transport that can help us on our journey.

English
This week we read the story 'We’re going on a bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We have had lots of fun learning about this story by joining in with the repetitive refrains and actions and learning lots of new language. We created our own story map to help us learn the order of the story and explored some different textures and creating our own marks to represent the grass, river, mud, forest, snowstorm and cave.
Maths
In Math's this week we have continued to think about subitising numbers 1-3 which means recognising amounts by sight without counting them.
R.E
In R.E this week we heard the story of Noah’s Ark. We learned that this was a story that Jesus would have heard when he was growing up. We found it in the Bible in the Old Testament and we then found the rainbow on the Big Frieze and talked about how Noah was obedient and had courage, trust and faith in God. We will have lots of fun playing with the Noah’s Ark in the small world area!
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
Our Nursery Rhyme for this week is ‘Round and Round the Garden and we have been learning our Poetry Basket poem ‘Let’s put on our mittens’. In Phonics this week we have been looking at the letter ‘m’ - Put your lips together and make the mmmmm sound mmmmm. We have been looking at different friends names and objects beginning with the sound and we used our robot voices to help us segment some words beginning with the ‘m’ sound.
In Squiggle while you Wiggle we have been practising our ‘under the hump’ marks (which looks like a smiley face). We worked really hard over a few days to perfect our marks and they are looking fantastic!
P.E
In P.E this week we have started our new topic which is dance. The children followed a magical story of being witches and wizards riding on their broomsticks and making magical potions.
PSHE
In PSHE we have been reflecting on why it is important to use our manners and say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. We have been reminding ourselves to use them and celebrating those that have.
Dates to Remember next week
On Thursday 15th the children will be having a teddy bears picnic so please can all children bring a teddy bear into Nursery with them.
