Week 4

In English this week we have been reading the story of ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell. The children have been joining in with repeated phrases and learning the song ‘We’re going to the Zoo’. We have been reflecting on what we would need to buy if we were given a puppy. We have had a go at writing our own shopping lists by drawing what we would need and writing initial sounds.

This week in R.E the Nursery children continued our learning about the Easter story. We heard how Jesus washed his disciples’ feet and how this surprised them but was an act of love. Then we heard how he shared bread and wine with them, saying that they represented his body and blood. We acted out this part of the story by watching one of our friends have their feet washed and then we all sat down to enjoy a snack together of bread and wine (squash).

We have also been making some lovely Easter cards ready to take with us for the residents at Joseph Jennings on Tuesday.

In Phonics we have been looking at the letter ‘h’, finding things that begin with that sound, and practising our segmenting and blending skills to follow instructions e.g. what sound does a ‘d-u-ck’ make or a ‘sh-ee-p?’ Our Nursery rhyme for this week has been ‘Down at the station’.

In Squiggle while you Wiggle we have been re-visiting the ‘wiggle up and down’ mark and seeing how this can help us form the letter ‘s’, or draw a road or a path.

The Nursery children have been learning all about the celebration of Ramadan this week exploring how it is celebrated and why it is important to Muslims. Mrs Ahmed brought in some traditional food, clothes and items used at prayer time to show the children.

In Maths this week we have been exploring positions by completing different jigsaw puzzles. We have been looking at how we have to move and turn pieces to see which ones fit.

The children have also been making some Easter cornflake cakes by helping to break the chocolate up, mix the cornflakes and chocolate together, scoop and fill the cupcake cakes and count out 3 eggs to put on the top.
