Week 5

Music

The Nursery children have been enjoying exploring rhythm by moving their bodies along to different types of Music this week. We thought about whether the music made us feel happy or sad and whether it made us dance fast or slow.

We have been getting our creative hats on this week in preparation for Arts week by thinking about gardens and what we might see in a garden. We have been focusing on ponds by making some beautiful art work using collage techniques and stamping with sponges. They look absolutely beautiful!

Squiggle while you wiggle, Phonics, Rhyme Time

Our Squiggle while you wiggle focus this week has been under the hump. We have used this mark to help us form the letter ‘u’ and to draw smiley faces. We have been looking at the Nursery Rhyme ‘Miss Polly had a Dolly’ and our sound of the week this week has been ‘j’.

Maths

In Maths this week we have been comparing amounts to see whether two hoops had the same amount of bean bags in them or different amounts in each hoop. We then used the language of more or less to compare the amounts.

R.E

Today, we learned that special places like churches and mosques are ‘holy’ and so those people who visit them only use them for special activities, like praying, singing songs to God and learning about God. Sometimes they take their shoes off and wash their faces and arms to show respect to God.

We thought about places that we take our shoes off to show our respect to the people who live or work there:

“Home”

“The play centre”

“The temple”

“on a bouncy castle”

“swimming”

“When I’m jumping on the trampoline”

“at my grandmas”

PSHE

This week we have been re-capping our listening skills by practising having a conversation with a partner taking turns. We then played the ‘Name that noise’ game where the  children had to close their eyes and guess what instrument or object made the sound.

UW

In understanding the world this week we have been exploring worms and thinking about why they are so important for our soil and creating compost to help our plants to grow. The children went to have another look at our compost bin and we discussed the importance of recycling our left over food.

Independent Learning

During independent learning this week the children have been exploring castles, knights, princesses and dragons to link with our reading for pleasure text ‘Zog’. The children have been creating tiaras, designing princess dresses and acting out imaginative stories in our small world area.
