Summer 2 Week 1

Welcome back, we hope you all had a wonderful half term! To start the half term the children have been learning all about the upcoming celebration of Father’s Day. They have been learning about why we celebrate it and how it is traditionally celebrated. The children have been busy creating their own beautiful cards, painting pictures and creating their own wonderful Father’s Day crafts within independent learning.

English

In English the children have been looking at the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, they have been joining in with the repetitive refrains, thinking about which foods are healthy and unhealthy within the story and retelling the story within their play during independent learning.

Phonics, Rhyme Time and Poetry Basket

In Phonics the children have been learning the sound ‘v’, they have been looking at objects that begin with the sound and matching objects to initial sounds. Our Nursery Rhyme for the week was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and our Poem was ‘Tiny Turtle’ which the children all really love.

Maths

In Maths the children have been looking at repeated patterns in stories and rhymes.

Squiggle while you Wiggle

In Squiggle while you wiggle the children revisited the ‘hook up’ mark and for those children who were ready they had a go at forming the letter ‘r’.

R.E

We began our new topic on prayer by thinking about what prayer is and how we might do it. In our Chatterbox were some objects to help Christians focus on God when they pray, such as a holding Cross, prayer beads or candle.

We thought about how we talk to other people on the phone, computers, by sending cards and letters or using sign language but how we tend to talk to God by speaking, singing or dancing.

We enjoyed listening to the song ‘Our Father’. We talked about how this prayer is said in lots of different languages all over the world.

PSHE

In PSHE we revisited the Zones of Regulation and which emotions each colour represents. We then discussed strategies the children can use to help them regulate and calm down if they are feeling in the red zone.

Music

In Music we looked at long and short sounds this week using body percussion. The children had a go at creating their own short sounds by clicking, stamping, clapping and long sounds by rubbing different parts of their bodies or continuously stamping and clapping.
