Summer 2 Week 3

Date: 25th Jun 2026 @ 4:58pm

Over the past two weeks the children have been thinking about how to look after our bodies and minds. We have learnt about which foods are healthy and un-healthy by looking at the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘Handas’ Surprise.’ As part of our learning about healthy eating the children have made some fruit smoothies and healthy salads to support their understanding of how we can have our 5 Fruit and Veg a day.

The children have taken part in a fantastic gymnastics P.E lesson this week aswel as a really fun session with Freddy Fit learning all about why exercise is so important for our bodies. We have been singing songs like Head, shoulders, knees and toes to help us learn the different names of the parts of our bodies and we labelled one of our friends body outline altogether.

We have explored our sense of smell this week by smelling different scented items like coffee, soap, lemon zest, cinnamon, mint, chives and lavender hidden in some socks.

Over the past week we have enjoyed learning some action rhymes like ‘Round and round the garden’ and ‘Ring a ring a roses’. We have also been learning one of the trickier Phonics sounds- y.

During happy minds week we have taken lots of time for quiet reflection and some mindfulness moments to help us calm down and regulate after playing outside. This has really helped to keep our bodies cool during this hot weather.

In R.E this week we heard the story of Daniel in the lions’ den. We heard how, unlike Jonah, Daniel obeyed God. He never stopped praying to God. Because of Daniel’s faith, God showed how much He loved him by rescuing him, his faithful servant, from the lions.

We heard how, when we pray, we can trust that God will hear and answer our prayers, because He says so in the Bible:

Jeremiah 29:12: “when you pray, I will listen”.

Finally, we practised the song ‘Prayer is like a telephone’, which encourages us to pray every day.
