Week 1 and 2
We are so proud of all of our new Nursery children and how well they have settled in over the past two weeks. We have been having lots of fun getting to know our new friends, our new classroom and starting to learn our daily routine.
English
In English we have been looking at the story ‘I love me’ by Sally Morgan. We have been learning the song ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’, making playdough faces and exploring our bodies and everything we can do with them.
Maths
In Maths we have been making collections of objects and comparing the amounts by saying which bucket or hoop has ‘more’ or ‘less’ in. We went on a walk around the school to compare collections e.g. in the library we saw that there were lots of books, and outside there was lots of bricks but in the playground there was only a few bins and a few football posts.
PE
In PE we have been moving our bodies in different ways by practicing our running, jumping, hopping, skipping, crawling and balancing skills.
PSHE
We have also been learning about our feelings through our PSHE- Zones of Regulations learning. We have been learning about how the different colours link with our different emotions and we have been encouraging the children to say how they are feeling.
Red- Angry
Blue- Sad
Green- Happy
Yellow- Nervous or worried
We have also been thinking about our class rules this week, which are to…
- Always try our best
- Listen to instructions
- To be kind to our friends- share/ take turns
- Not to hurt anybody. To have kind hands and feet.
- Walk and not run in the classroom.
- Look after our toys
- Keep our classroom tidy
R.E
In R.E we read the Creation story from the Bible and learnt that Christians believe that God created the wonderful world that we live in. We looked inside our Chatterbox at some of the things that God created in seven days. We also learnt the song ‘he’s got the whole world in his hands’.
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
Our Nursery Rhyme for this week is ‘12345 Once I caught a fish alive’. In Phonics we have been working on our Phase 1 Phonics listening skills of joining in and copying different sounds using body percussion. Our poem for this week was ‘Breezy Weather’.
Squiggle while you wiggle
We have started our 'Squiggle While You Wiggle' sessions this week, which is an activity that builds the children's fine and gross motor skills. In this session, we perfected our up and down movements while we boogied along to Wham – “I'm your man.”
Music
In Music we have been joining in with lots of Nursery rhymes and trying to clap along to the pulse in music.
Independent Learning
During Independent learning over the past two weeks the children have been sorting colours, exploring emotions, painting self-portraits, creating pictures and collages of Elmer. They have been practicing their fine motor skills by threading beads, making playdough faces and catching fish in the water tray.
We have also had our first library session, which was very exciting choosing our new books to bring home. Your child should have their library book in their bag. This will be changed every Friday so please make sure it comes back into school next Friday.
We can’t wait to see you all again next week!
