Week 4
English
In Literacy we have been reading the story ‘Kindness makes us Strong’ by Sophie Beer. There is an attached video if you would like to listen to it at home. We have been focusing on celebrating kindness within the classroom for example by sharing toys, letting our friends play, taking turns and helping each other.
Maths
In Maths we have been learning how to explore and build with shapes and objects. We have been using blocks and bricks to create towers and houses comparing the sizes of objects using the language ‘big’, ‘bigger’, ‘small’ and ‘smaller’.
PE
In PE we have practicing moving at different speeds, finding spaces to move into and changing direction whilst we are moving.
UW
This week we have been learning about how we are all different and unique. We have been focusing on how we all look different e.g. we have different skin colour, hair, eyes and some of us are boys and some of us are girls.
PSHE
As part of our PSHE learning we looked at the story ‘On Wednesday when it rained’. We looked at the different emotions in the story and tried to find the matching ones on our emotion fans.
R.E
This week we opened our Chatterbox and discovered lots of objects inside which show how we are unique and special. We looked at a thumb print and then created our own piece of artwork using our individual thumb prints. We learned that everyone’s fingerprints are unique, even if they are made with the same colour paint.
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
Our Nursery Rhyme for this week is ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’. In Phonics we have been working on our Phase 1 Phonics listening skills by listening to the noises different instruments make and we created our own instruments using junk modelling. Our poem for this week was ‘Wise Old Owl’.
Squiggle while you wiggle
In 'Squiggle While you Wiggle' this week we have been putting our 'up and down' and 'side to side' movements together to make a pattern; whilst booging along to 'Dancing Queen' by Abba. We have attached a picture to show you what we have been drawing. We have been practising making these patterns in different sizes.
Independent Learning
Our reading for pleasure book this week is ‘Owl Babies’ so we have been exploring different feathers in the classroom and we have had a go at painting using feathers as a tool. We created owl masks, made nests using sticks and rubber eggs, played with 5 Little Ducks in the water tray and practised our fine motor skills getting pom poms out of a Spiders web.
Thank you so much for all of the lovely family photographs we enjoyed sharing them with our friends in class during circle time whilst describing who is special to us.
