Week 6

English

As part of our Literacy learning this week linked with the story ‘Kindness makes us Strong,’ we have been thinking about how we can show kindness in the classroom with our friends such as by sharing toys, having kind hands, taking turns and letting our friends play.

Maths

In Maths we have been making rockets by practising our building skills inspired by the story ‘Whatever Next’. We have been thinking about what shapes we wanted to choose to make a rocket and why certain shapes of bricks were easier to use than others.

PE

In PE this week we have been focusing on our throwing and catching skills and our balancing skills by balancing a bean bag on different parts of our bodies.

PSHE

This week we have been exploring different emotions and using mirrors to show these on our faces. We also took part in some bubble breathing, watching bubbles pop whilst taking deep breaths to help calm us down.

Music

In Music this week we have been practicing playing instruments loudly and quietly.

R.E

In R.E this week we reminded ourselves of the Creation story and how God made the world and everything in it for us to enjoy and share. We learned that at Harvest time, people all around the world say thank you to God for all that He has given them, especially food. We learned a new ‘Thank You’ prayer that we will say at snack time.

We made fruit salads using fruits from the UK and around the world. We learned where they came from and why they can grow there.

Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket

Our Rhyme Time song this week is ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’. We have been learning what a fiddle is and we have enjoyed creating our own musical instruments using carboard boxes and elastic bands. As part of our Phonics learning this week we have been focusing on rhyming words. Our Poem for this week is ‘Five Little Pumpkins’.

Squiggle while you wiggle

In Squiggle While you Wiggle we have been practising the ‘wiggle side to side’ pattern. The children particularly enjoyed dancing along to this pattern and found it a lot easier than ‘wiggle up and down.’

Independent Learning

During independent learning the children have been practising their fine motor skills threading straws, they have been making junk model rockets, re-enacting the story ‘Whatever Next’ and painting fork hedgehogs.
