Autumn 1 Week 7
Date: 16th Oct 2025 @ 3:15pm
Week 7
English
This week we have introduced the topic book ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children learnt lots of new vocabulary, such as: farmyard, corn, mill, and flour. We have learned that flour is made from wheat, which is harvested by farmers. We have had lots of fun making and eating our own bread. It was very yummy!
We thought about who we should say thank you to for all the wonderful food we have-God, farmers, delivery drivers, factory workers and shop workers.’
Maths
In Maths this week we have been thinking about how we can select shapes for a reason to create a picture. We had a go at using 2D shapes to create a rocket.
PE
In PE this week we have been practicing our ball skills by moving around the hall with balls in various ways by throwing and catching them, tapping them with our feet and using them as steering wheels.
UW
We have continued our learning about Harvest time by learning all about Scarecrows this week. We learnt about why farmers use them to protect their crops and we worked together to create our own class scarecrow called Arthur. He looks fantastic! We have also been learning the nursery rhyme ‘I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow’.
Music
In Music this week we have been practicing playing instruments fast and slow to the rhyme;
Slowly slowly very slowly creeps the garden snail
Quickly quickly runs the little mouse, quickly quickly, very quickly into her little house.
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
As part of our Phonics learning this week we have been focusing on syllables, counting how many syllables are in our names and our favourite food. Our Poem for this week is ‘Pointy Hat’.
Squiggle while you wiggle
In Squiggle while you wiggle this week we have been using our ‘wiggle side to side’ marks to help us do some cross over marks.
Independent Learning
Nursery have been really enjoying our ‘Wheelie Wednesdays’. This is where we get the bikes and scooters out to practise our balancing and gross motor skills. Some of us are very confident and some of us are still learning how to pedal and how to sit and balance on a bike. They are all doing brilliantly at having a go and trying.
During independent learning this week we have also been role-playing in our farm tough tray, making Autumn tree paintings, making rockets with 2D shapes and practicing our fine motor skills in our Pumpkin tray.
