Week 8
UW
This week Nursery have been learning all about Diwali. They learnt about how Hindu's celebrate Diwali, looked at some special artifacts, listened to the story of Rama and Sita, created their own clay Diva lamps and enjoyed dressing up in some traditional Hindu clothing.
We also created some yummy Pumpkin soup to link with our reading for pleasure text ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper. It was delicious!
PSHE
This week we reflected on how our brains have helped us to do things through the day. Such as helping us to learn, choose what fruit we would like to eat, choose what we would like to play with etc.
Music
In Music this week we have dancing to the music again with some silk scarves.
R.E
In R.E this week we thanked God that we have enough food to eat and learned that some people in the world do not. We thought about how having an empty plate in front of us made us feel (“sad”). We heard that in the Bible, God tells us not to harvest our food right to the edge of the field or gather up food that has fallen, but to leave this for the poor.
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
Our Rhyme Time song this week is ‘Humpty Dumpty. As part of our Phonics learning this week we have been playing some listening games on the IWB and we played a game of silly soup. Our Poem for this week is ‘Chop Chop’.
Squiggle while you wiggle
In Squiggle while you wiggle this week we have been practising circles drawing clockwise and anti-clockwise whilst boogying along to ‘I’m in the mood for dancing’. We made some brilliant marks!
Maths
In Maths we have been focusing on Nursery rhymes as a pre-starter for learning about patterns. We have been trying to join in with familiar ones and focusing on repeated refrains and the musical patterns in the rhymes.
Independent Learning
During independent learning this week we have been exploring pumpkins, making playdough hedgehogs, making bird feeders, decorating hands with Mendhi patterns, decorating pumpkin pictures and making Rangoli patterns.
We also had a very exciting trip out to Joseph Jennings where we made some Autumn crafts, sang songs and shared stories with the residents.
