Week 2

UW

We have been learning about what Remembrance Day is and how we wear poppies to commemorate the soldiers who have served for our country. The children took part in a minutes silence and have also painted their own poppies and made some collages in the painting area.

PSHE

As this week is Anti-bullying week we have been looking at the book ‘Have you filled a bucket today’. We have been thinking about the things we can do to spread happiness and show kindness to our friends to ‘fill up their bucket’. We have made pictures for our friends in class, and some salt dough stars to give to someone special in our family to ‘fill up their bucket with happiness’. It is such a lovely story and concept to help the children understand how their actions affect others so I have attached the video for you to watch aswel.

English

For English our topic book for the next few weeks is ‘Real Superheroes’ by Julia Seal. We will be learning about lots of different occupations over the next few weeks and about how different people help us within the community.

Maths

In Maths we have continued to practise our counting skills by counting number names in order.

PE

In PE this week we have been focusing on practicing ball skills by throwing and catching balls.

Music

In Music we have been practising our musicality skills by dancing with scarves to music, exploring how the music makes us feel and how it makes us want to move our bodies.

R.E

This week, the children listened to the story of Jesus feeding the 5000. They thought about how Jesus showed love, compassion and generosity within the story by feeding the crowd. This made Him a special person and helped people to trust that He would give them all that they needed.

Within school we found this story on the Gospel panel of the Big Frieze. We found out that the Gospel is the part of the Bible which tells us all about what Jesus did and taught.

Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket

We have been busy practicing our Nursery Rhymes this week for our little performance for parents. In phonics, we have focused on our new sound ‘a’. To support your child to pronounce the sound at home, say “Open your mouth wide and make the a sound at the back of your mouth a a a”. We have been thinking about what letter our names all begin with.

Squiggle while you wiggle

In Squiggle while you wiggle we have been boogying along to ‘Rhythm is a dancer’ practising the ‘hump left and right’. This mark is a rainbow shape so we have been using our mark making skills to also help us create some beautiful rainbows.

Independent Learning

During independent learning this week we have been painting our names, making poppies, forming the letter ‘a’, exploring an under the sea shaving foam tough tray to link with our R.E learning and practising counting with pom poms.

The children also took part in our Nursery rhyme performance for parents. They sang so beautifully, we hope you enjoyed it!
