Week 4
English
In English we have been looking at the verbs within the story of ‘When you’re fast asleep’ by creating actions to go with them. We have been learning about different people who help us within provision by dressing up as doctors, dentists and policemen.
Maths
This week in Maths we have been practising counting to 10 in different ways by counting in silly voices, counting actions with our bodies and singing counting rhymes.
PE
In PE this week we have been focusing on their catching and throwing skills by throwing beanbags into hoops.
UW
The Nursery children have shown our Christian value of compassion this week by putting some bird food out in the EYFS garden after reading the book ‘How to help Rory the garden bird’. We then went on a lovely Winter welly walk looking for signs of Winter. We were very excited to spot some magpies eating the bird food we left for them.
R.E
In R.E this week we heard the story of Jesus walking on water. We saw how Peter showed courage and trust when he walked on the water to Jesus and how Jesus showed love and compassion by saving him from sinking. We made objects that float and sink.
We found the miracle on the Gospel panel of the Big Frieze and learned the song ‘With Jesus in the boat, we can smile through the storm’ to help us remember how God keeps us safe and looks after us when life is scary.
PSHE
In PSHE this week we have been thinking about our Character strengths and celebrating these within class through looking at the story of ‘Charlie’s rainbow adventure’. The character strengths are;
- Love and kindness
- Teamwork and friendship
- Bravery and honesty
- Love of life and our world
- Exploring and learning
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
Our Nursery Rhyme for this week is ‘Miss Polly had a dolly’ and we have been learning our Poetry Basket poem ‘Who has seen the wind?’ For Phonics, we have focused on our new sound ‘p’. We have attached the picture card that matches the sound. To support your child to pronounce the sounds correctly say "bring you lips together, push them open and say p p p".
Squiggle while you wiggle
In Squiggle while you wiggle we have been boogying along to ‘Let’s Groove’ practising our ‘Under the hump.’
Independent Learning
During independent learning this week we have been forming the letter ‘p’, painting Winter pictures, counting buttons onto gingerbread men, creating our own snowmen pictures and pouring and filling with a lovely Gingerbread themed rice tray.
The Nursery children have been busy making angels this week which we are going to be posting around our local community next week, we hope they bring a smile to our neighbours faces. We have also been writing our letters to Santa ready for a very special visit from him next week.
