Week 5

English

Our English text for the next few weeks is ‘The Sparkly Nativity’. We have been thinking about Christmas traditions and how people celebrate Christmas. We worked together to decorate our class Christmas tree and we have learnt about the tradition of Advent.

Maths

In Maths we have started our learning on subitising trying to recognise amounts 1,2,3 from sight recognition without counting them.

PE

In PE this week we have been trying to roll and throw a ball or beanbag into different hoops of different sizes and distances. The children realized that the smaller the hoop the trickier it was.

UW

We have been continuing our learning about the seasons this week thinking about what type of clothes we need to wear in the Winter.

R.E

This week, we heard the Christmas story for the first time. First, we opened the Chatterbox and talked about what was inside - a birth congratulations card, a birthday cake candle, a happy birthday banner, a present and a Christmas card. We talked about what birthdays are and then we thought about how we celebrate our birthdays (with cake, a party and presents) and how we feel on our birthdays (happy and excited).

We heard that Christmas day is Jesus’s birthday and thought about how Christmas celebrations are similar to birthday celebrations because we have cake and presents. We enjoyed playing with our Nativity scene and retelling this with our friends!

PSHE

In PSHE this week we have been thinking about our Character strengths and celebrating these within class through looking at the story of ‘Charlie’s rainbow adventure’. The character strengths are;

  • Love and kindness
  • Teamwork and friendship
  • Bravery and honesty
  • Love of life and our world
  • Exploring and learning

Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket

Our Nursery Rhyme for this week is ‘One two buckle my shoe’ and we have been learning our Poetry Basket poem ‘Shoes?’ In Phonics, we have focused on our new sound ‘i’. We have attached the picture card that match the sounds. To support your child to pronounce the sounds correctly say  “Pull your lips back and make the i sound at the back of your mouth ii i”

Squiggle while you wiggle

In Squiggle while you wiggle we have been boogying along to ‘Everybody Dance’ practising our ‘Split the under hump left and right.’ This mark looks like a big smile so we have been using it to help us create smiley faces.

Independent Learning

We have been looking at the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ as our reading for pleasure text and we have been joining in with the repetitive refrains in the story. Within provision we have been counting pom poms onto the Gingerbread Men, playing with ginger and cinnamon scented playdough, designing our own Gingerbread Men and making our own Gingerbread biscuits.

The Nursery children had a very exciting visitor this week! The children gave Santa the wish lists they'd worked hard to write and Santa brought all of the children a tasty treat!

We had a lovely morning on Thursday posting our beautiful angels around our local community. We hope they put a smile on everyone's faces and spread the message of love hope and joy.
