Nursery Autumn 1 Week 3

Week 3

English

In Literacy, we have been reading the story ‘I Love Me’ by Sally Morgan. There is an attached video if you would like to listen to it at home. We have been continuing to practise the nursery rhyme ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ to help us learn all about our body parts.

We have also read the poem ‘Splish Splash Splosh’ by James Carter.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been continuing our learning about comparing amounts. We looked at different collections of Autumn objects outside, such as a collection of conkers and a collection of leaves. We learnt that a collection of objects means there is more than one of the same thing.

We then went on a walk around the school to search for different collections, for example, a collection of coats on the coat pegs and a collection of bricks and cones outside.

P.E

In P.E, we have been practising moving safely around, showing an awareness of where others are and stopping with control. We also played some fun games using cones and balls, such as ‘The Floor is Lava’.

UW

The children have been learning about the four different seasons this week. We have introduced the season of Autumn to the children and looked at some of the things we may see during Autumn.

PSHE

As part of our PSHE learning, we have been learning all about our brains and all of the wonderful things they help us to do. We also created our own glitter sensory bottles to help calm us down if we need to use them in our classroom.

We have also had a very exciting visit from a local dentist to kickstart our daily toothbrushing. The children really enjoyed learning about which foods are healthy and unhealthy and why it is important to brush their teeth.

R.E.

For our R.E. learning this week, we saw something amazing, unique and made by God: us! We looked carefully at ourselves in a mirror and thought about our skin colour. We saw that God made us in a rainbow of colours.

We tried hard to paint our own self-portraits, thinking about the colour of our hair, eyes and skin, as well as the features we have on our faces that we needed to paint.

We also looked at our fingerprints and how they are all unique to us. The children had lots of fun exploring fingerprint painting and looking at their fingerprints through magnifying glasses to see the different patterns.

Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket

Our nursery rhyme for this week is ‘A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea’. In Phonics, we have been working on our Phase 1 Phonics listening skills by making different sounds with our voices. Our poem for this week was ‘Leaves Are Falling’.

Squiggle While You Wiggle

In Squiggle While You Wiggle, we have strengthened our fine and gross motor skills by making side-to-side movements and marks while we boogied along to ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves.

Music

In Music, we have been singing and moving along to the song ‘Well You Walk and You Walk’, practising our listening skills and learning to stop in time with the music. It was a little bit tricky, but lots of fun!

Independent Learning

During independent learning this week, the children have been enjoying exploring our outdoor environment and playing in the tree house, painting with blackberries, exploring autumn objects, building sandcastles and making nature faces.

We have also been painting pictures of our houses, practising our threading skills, painting waves to link with our nursery rhyme and finding photos of our friends hidden in rice to help us learn our friends’ names.
