Nursery Autumn 1 Week 5
Date: 2nd Oct 2026 @ 10:15am
Week 5
English
As part of our Literacy learning this week, linked to the story Kindness Makes Us Strong, we made some chocolate chip cookies. We worked together to follow the instructions, measure the ingredients and mix them all together. They were delicious! We have also been learning the nursery rhyme Five Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day to link with our Literacy learning.
Maths
In Maths, we have been comparing objects and sorting them by size using the language 'big', 'small', 'bigger' and 'smaller'. We have been working with our friends to complete jigsaw puzzles. We explored rotating and flipping the pieces to make them fit.
PE
In PE this week, we have been focusing on jumping and hopping. Lots of us found hopping a little tricky, so this is something we need lots of practice with!
UW
This week, we have been learning about Harvest and worked with our new talk partners to explore different types of fruit and vegetables. We discussed with our talk partners whether we knew what each item was called and whether it was a fruit or a vegetable.
PSHE
This week, we have been thinking about how we keep our bodies and brains healthy. We practised some 'bubble breathing' to help calm us down when our brains are feeling fizzy and overwhelmed.
Music
In Music this week, we have been using scarves to move our bodies freely and dance along to the music.
R.E.
Today, we thought about how our families are similar and different. We learned that Christians believe God is our Heavenly Father, we are His children, and we are part of a wider family of Christians all over the world. We put our family photos on display in the home corner so that we can use them when playing families in different ways. We practised the song Good To Be Me, which reminds us that we are unique and that this is something to celebrate!
Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
As part of our Phonics learning this week, we went on a listening walk around the school and school grounds to discover what we could hear. We listened to the sounds of cars, the wind, music playing, water running in the sink, pots clanging in the school kitchens, hand dryers in the bathrooms and birds singing. We also enjoyed a 'Munch and Crunch' snack time, where we used our listening skills to decide whether different foods made a loud, crunchy sound when we ate them or a quieter, munchy sound.
Squiggle While You Wiggle
In Squiggle While You Wiggle this week, we have been practising our 'wiggle up and wiggle down' mark while boogying along to Mr Saxobeat.
Independent Learning
During independent learning this week, we have been building houses, painting with different fruits and vegetables, making autumn tree collages and completing jigsaw puzzles. We have made playdough hedgehogs with sticks and clay hedgehogs as part of our learning about woodland animals. We also enjoyed collecting leaves to make them a cosy little autumn bed.
A huge thank you to all of the parents who came to our library session this week, it was so lovely to see how excited the children were to choose their first library book.
