Week 7

English
This week we have been continuing our learning about The Little Red Hen by joining in with the repeated refrains in the story and creating our own actions to help us remember the storyline. We have also been looking at some of the key vocabulary in the story and using it to help us create our own wonderful sentences.

Maths
In Maths this week we have been looking at repeated patterns. We have been joining in with repeated patterns in songs, exploring repeated refrains in stories and creating our own repeated patterns using objects around the classroom such as pencil, scissors, pencil, scissors.

Music
In Music this week we have been practising playing instruments fast and slow to the rhyme:

Slowly, slowly very slowly creeps the garden snail.

Quickly, quickly runs the little mouse, quickly, quickly, very quickly into her little house.

PSHE
In PSHE this week we have been thinking about some of the things we can do and some of the resources we can use in the classroom to help us calm down if we are feeling in the red or blue zone. The children came up with some great ideas such as having some calm time in our tent or using the sensory bottles to help them feel calmer.

Rhyme Time, Phonics and Poetry Basket
Our nursery rhyme this week is Hickory Dickory Dock and as part of our Phonics learning we have been focusing on rhyming words, playing games such as Silly Soup and using our rhyming tubs to help us hear patterns in sounds.

Our poem this week is Pointy Hat:

A little old lady with a tall pointy hat,
Knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat.
I looked through the window to see who was there,
And up on her broomstick she flew through the air.

R.E.
During R.E. Day we explored how Christians can be found all around the world and looked at different places on our globe where many Christians live. We reflected on how Christians can live in lots of different countries and cultures. They may look different, speak different languages and have different traditions but they are all part of the worldwide Christian community.

During R.E. this week we also continued our learning about Harvest and thanked God that we have enough food to eat, learning that some people around the world do not. We thought about how having an empty plate in front of us made us feel ("sad").

We heard that in the Bible God tells us not to harvest our food right to the edge of the field or gather up food that has fallen but to leave some for the poor.

We finished by saying our thank you prayer.

We learned the song Thank Your Lucky Stars, which is all about being thankful for what we have and sharing it with those who have less than us.

We also made some delicious fruit salads to help us practise our fine motor skills and learn about Harvest and the foods that are collected around the world at this time.

Squiggle While You Wiggle
In Squiggle While You Wiggle this week we have been using our "wiggle side-to-side" marks to help us make crossover marks whilst boogying along to I Think We're Alone Now.

Independent LearningDuring independent learning this week we have been role-playing with our farm tuff tray, creating our own patterns, practising turn-taking through games and becoming independent artists by pouring and mixing our own paint while exploring our new craft area.
