Autumn 1 Week 8

Maths

In Maths we have been practising our counting skills by counting forwards through rhymes such as 'One Potato, Two Potato', 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe' and '1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive'.

UW

We have continued our learning about Harvest time by learning all about scarecrows this week. We learnt why farmers use them to protect their crops and we worked together to create our own class scarecrow called Rainbow. He looks fantastic! We have also been learning the nursery rhyme 'I'm a Dingle Dangle Scarecrow'.

Rhyme Time, Poetry Basket and Phonics

This week our nursery rhyme is 'Humpty Dumpty' and our fabulous poem is 'Chop Chop'. This linked perfectly with our reading-for-pleasure text, Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper.

Chop Chop

Chop, chop, choppity chop,

Cut off the bottom and cut off the top.

What there is left, we put in the pot.

Chop, chop, choppity chop.

This inspired us to create our own pumpkin soup which was delicious!

In Phonics we have been listening to the initial sounds in our names by playing games such as 'I Spy with My Little Eye'.

Joseph Jennings

Thank you so much to the parents and grandparents who joined us on our trip to Joseph Jennings Care Home for some lovely autumn crafts. The children were so polite and well behaved and we had a wonderful afternoon with the residents. In preparation for the visit we learnt a little about care homes and elderly people during carpet times.

Harvest Appeal

The children had a fantastic morning on Wednesday joining in with the Harvest Appeal activities. They helped to create a river of food using all the wonderful donations that were sent in and enjoyed a little obstacle course supported by the Year 6 Councillors.

PSHE

In PSHE we have been reflecting on things our brains have helped us to do today such as 'cutting vegetables for our pumpkin soup', 'putting our coats on and doing up our zips', 'counting in Maths', 'remembering to go to the toilet' and 'remembering to use our manners'.

Over half term we would like your child to practise putting on their coat, hat, scarf and gloves independently ready for playing outside in the colder weather. If they can already do this please encourage your child to zip up their coat independently.

Have a wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all after half term.
